Texas is where my heart belongs!

March 15, 2011

It has been over a year since I bought my one way tickets and jumped a plane to NYC. It has been the adventure of a lifetime, full of friends, food, sightseeing, experiences, dating, tears, heartache and love. I knew in my heart when I set out on this adventure, that it was exactly that an ADVENTURE meant to open my eyes, open my heart, and help me understand what my future can hold.

Top of the Rock

After 13 months of adventure, I am packing my bags and returning to my one true home- TEXAS (April 15th is the big day). I have been accepted into the teacher certification program, and am going to do my very best to be a teacher come August. I think I want to teach 6th grade because they are my favorite age, but we will see what God has in store. Teaching brought me a joy that is irreplaceable, and even though there were days I wasn’t sure I would make it through, I NEVER hated my job. I can’t wait to be home close to all my family (this includes so many more people than just my immediate family) and friends. I am ready to start saving for a house and create a future for me (something it took me a long time to understand I don’t need husband for, but when God brings him I’ll be ready).

I still have several things on my NYC BUCKET LIST. I will be posting a list and dates I plan on crossing this list off tomorrow. My list includes biking the West Side Highway, Boston, Trapeze School, lots of food and more. If you are in NYC come join me for all these fun events. I will post a picture and recap of each!

I must say thank you to everyone who has supported me these last 13 months. I have been a crazy mess for most of them, so thank you for loving me through this adventure, especially my mom.

TEXAS watch out I am coming home and looking to hug each one of you, bake up a storm, make a daily Sonic run, and put my heart back where it belongs!

Livin’ On A Prayer

July 2, 2010

I have always dreamed of adventure, but could have never imagined the grandness of the last six months, no nine months because the Europe was the start (thanks Sarah)! Moving to New York and following my dreams was the continuation. The last major piece of my dream puzzle fell into place today. I am officially employed as the newest Marketing Manager of Community and Events in NYC. I am choosing to keep the company name out of my social media mediums, at least for now. I am very excited to be working for this company and enthused about the growth to come: in the company, in me and in me & the company!

So, life in The City begins: not as a tourist, not as a hopeful relocating graduate, but as a rent paying, job holding, city exploring woman following her dreams and learning she is stronger than she ever thought she could be! Me- a New York City citizen!

The best advice on following your dreams EVER: “A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast a sleep. In dreams you will loose your heartache, whatever you wish for you keep. Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come shining through. Now matter how your heart is dreaming if you keep on believing a dream that you wish will come true!”

My Promise

May 9, 2010

I promised myself on the plane ride to The City I would take advantage of the experiences, history, culture, and food that populate the 23 square miles of Manhattan Island. Here is to keeping my promise.

One of my favorite things about New York is the distinct seasons. Spring is definitely here! No touch-ups or airbrushing (as if I knew how to airbrush) were used. These colors are brought to you by God!

A little dash of color goes a long way!

April 18, 2010

My roommate and I decided we need a little more color to turn our apartment from blank dorm-room feel into a New York home. With a very small budget and some great finds, our living room feels cozy and inviting. We even got a runner to match in the kitchen. Thank you Heather for the beautiful flowers you bought to Spring our living room to life!

Next project: the ugly black food shelves in the kitchen. We have little cabinet space and three people. A cute solution is on its way.

Since Heather and are both from Texas, we decided we needed a little Texas wall art to make it feel like home. Heather’s mom graciously sent us the Lone Star above the TV.

I have not made my room a priority yet, but when it is all decorated pictures will follow.

Our dining room table with a window view can be seen behind the chair.

Our living room rug! It makes the brick wall pop!

The view through the living room and kitchen.

Lone Star! Texas never leaves you it just roots itself where ever you go!

Oh the Places I Will Go!

April 6, 2010

It has been over a month since I boarded that Southwest plane with my 4 bags and decided to follow my dreams!

I have seen a lot of amazing things (see list below), have really great roommates and a beautiful apartment, and have found 2 contract jobs to keep me busy and pay this Manhattan rent. I did not take the retail job because the contract jobs are in my field and great exposure!

I promise to post more pictures, but these two jobs keep me busy!

Recognizable NYC

March 27, 2010

I really enjoy capturing NYC through pictures. One of my favorite eye-catchers in the Manhattan skyline is the Empire State Building. It is not the tallest building in the city or the grandest, but it sweeps me off my feet each time I see it!
